Beginning Band Parent Meeting
September 9, 2014
6:00 – 7:00 PM
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am excited to announce that there will be a band elective offered to our 7th and 8th grade students this year! Playing an instrument not only expands students’ knowledge, but it is also a fun and fulfilling activity. By participating in the beginning band, your child will learn how to play and care for an instrument, as well as reinforce musical concepts such as note reading, rhythmic skills and expressive elements. Students will boost self-esteem by playing an integral part in the overall group, and increase self-discipline. Clearly, there are many benefits to participating in an organized band program.
An informational meeting, for parents and their child, will take place on Tuesday, September 9th, 2014, from 6 – 7 PM, in the Swift School auditorium. It is recommended that the students purchase their instrument, method book and stand, as I will not have enough to accommodate everyone. Representatives from Flatts & Sharpe Music Company (6749 N. Sheridan Road) will be on hand for instrument demonstrations and information on their rent-to-own program. If you have an instrument in the home already, it is recommended that you bring it to the meeting, so the condition of the instrument may be checked. It is essential that the quality of the instrument is in good working condition in order to give your child the tools to have a successful experience.
I hope to see you and your child there! However, if you are not able to attend and your child is interested, or due to financial hardship you are not able to participate in the rent-to-own program, please feel free to contact me: [email protected] or 773/534/2695.
